One of the staples of Sunday morning political talk shows are conversations between members of opposing parties talking about the issue of the day. It’s standard operating procedure on Meet the Press, Fox News Sunday, and of course, Face the State. We’ve all done it for years. Moderators and producers look for people who will provide our viewers with a lively, thoughtful discussion.
Here at Face the State, I occasionally look for some new faces to debate the topic du jour, and this week, we have two such people making their Face the State debuts. State Representative Kim Fawcett is a Democrat from Fairfield and State Representative Jason Perillo a Republican from Shelton.
Often we don’t know how the two guests will interact, and sometimes that makes for great television. This weekend’s guests proved to be good “he said, she said” partners. Fawcett and Perillo went back and forth on the budget and gun control.
