Happy Birthday, Hartford Marathon!!

One of Connecticut’s biggest annual events is turning the big 2-0! The Hartford Marathon has come a long way since its inception in 1994, and this week in our Face the State Flashback, we will show a clip from the news of the anticipation leading up to this October classic.

Running legend Bill Rodgers returned to the city where he was born to kick off the Hartford Marathon, He grew up in Newington and later went to college at Wesleyan. In the clip you’ll see Sunday, look for Channel 3’s Duby McDowell, the Hartford Courant’s Tom Condon, Gayle King and yours truly. Twenty year old videotape is always fun to look at.

  1. I was at the inaugural kick off celebration in 1994 at the Pump House. I sat with Bill Rogers, as a matter of fact. I remember shooting a promotional vid along Main St in So Windsor, too. Beth Schluger is the best.
