The Connecticut Catholic bishops are not happy with what the Democratic candidates for the U.S. senate had to say about abortion during Sunday’s Face the State debate on WFSB. The candidates, Susan Bysiewicz, Chris Murphy, William Tong, Lee Whitnum and Matthew Oakes, were asked by debate panelist Brian Lockhart of Hearst Newspapers, if they believe Catholic hospitals should be required to perform abortions. The bishops, Archbishop of Hartford Henry Mansell of Hartford, Archbishop-designate William Lori, Bishop of Bridgeport, Bishop Michael Cote of Norwich and Bishop Paul Chomnycky of the Ukrainian Catholic Diocese of Stamford released this statement today in response.
