Christmas Tree 2023

It’s been a tradition since before we had kids for Kara and I to go chop down our Christmas Tree at Dzen Tree Farm in South Windsor. The kids love going and walking through he farm in search of the perfect tree, and this year we brought mom, who was in town for a visit. This picture from 2000 is hanging a Dzen’s.

This year was not the white Christmas scene Kara and I enjoyed many years ago. 2023 had some challenges. Due to teen activities finding a time we could all go together was a little difficult and the stars aligned Sunday during a steady rain. Trudging through the mud and wrestling with a wet tree and slippery saw appealed to no one, so John Dzen suggested we take one of the pre-cut trees. His son Adam tied it onto the Buick Enclave Woody looping the twine through the windows. Why? Over Thanksgiving an attendant at a parking garage in Manhattan accidentally clipped the ceiling or something, and ripped off our roof rack where the tree usually goes.

Anyway, we had a fun time at Dzen’s which also features some food, and other holiday items, (ask for Jen Dzen inside) and don’t forget to stop and see the only reindeer in Connecticut. There are four of them, and maybe more next year. It is reindeer breeding season!.

By the way, this was the second year in a row we found sunshine on a rainy day at the Dzen Tree Farm. By the way, it can be a confusing place to find. If you are coming in from the south on Barber Hill Road take a left at the big reindeer. From the north, take a right and ask for John Dzen.
