With Malloy Out, Gubernatorial Field Grows

With Spring in full swing, the flowers are blooming at the state capitol and so are political aspirations for the 2018 races. The field of gubernatorial candidates is expected to grow in the coming weeks, now that Governor Malloy has announced there will be no run for a third term.

This Sunday morning on Face the State, we were joined by two Democrats who have vastly different backgrounds, but are eyeing the governor’s office. Chris Mattei is a former assistant U.S. Attorney, known for his prosecution of John Rowland. Mattei has filed an exploratory campaign for governor.

Also on Face the State this weekend, another Democrat with an exploratory campaign, Middletown Mayor Dan Drew. Drew and Mattei have some company in the Democratic field for the state’s highest office, and will be likely getting a few more adversaries as April gives way to May.
