Former Teacher Boughton Gives Malloy a D

This week on Face the State we are joined by the 2010 GOP nominee for lieutenant governor Mark Boughton, who is considering a run for governor in 2014. The Danbury mayor has opened an exploratory campaign, and will make a decision by year’s end.

During the taping of Face the State, Boughton sounded like a candidate, saying his campaign would be “people over politics.” I always asked the former teacher to give a grade to Governor Malloy for his performance as the state’s chief executive. Boughton said he would give the governor a “VG,” or very good for effort, but a “D” for execution. He also criticized Malloy for what he calls a lack of transparency in his administration.

“The governor had to sell his soul to special interests during the campaign, and we didn’t get Mayor Malloy, we got someone else.”

Boughton told me his favorite governor was Ella Grasso, and also had some kinds for some other governors who held that office, but not the ones you might have in mind. In addition, the mayor weighed in on Tom Foley and John McKinney.

We also have analysis and commentary from Matt DeRienzo of Connecticut Magazine and Chaz from WPLR.

  1. I give Governor Malloy an F on both ends. He raises taxes, borrows money to pay our bills and day to day state operations, increases funds for UCONN, decreases funds to the community college system, cuts state financial funds to community college students, approves the busway funding for a very small numb er of ct workers, totally screwed up CONSCU and never took the blame for hiring his cronies and his approved high paying contracts with them. He is a totally wasteful, spendthrift governor just like his buddy our President!

  2. The fact is that Malloy has dealt effectively with the unions, the legislature, and the deteriorating revenue and spending environment, all at once. Nobody – not one man or woman – in this state, and few in any other that you can name, has done anything comparable. Mark Boughton has never faced any challenge in his life like the ones that Malloy has faced personally, as a mayor, and of course as governor. Seems like a nice enough man, but he’s a shopkeeper in the right place at the right time. Not a leader, not an executive.

  3. God said judge not, we will all be judge by God also.Someday. When it all comes down to it What are we all TALKING ABOUT …” MONEY” WHAT THIS WORLD NEEDS IS LOT MORE PRAYING. THAT”S WHATS GOING TO CHANGE THIS WORLD . WHEN PEOPLE GET LOTS OF MONEY IT CHANGES YOU SOMETIMES FOR THE GOOD sometimes for the bad. I pray every day for all the people struggling in this world. The technology of this world has change so much just in the past 30 years .I don”t even own a cell phone just a simple track phone for emergency”s . My husband and I are from the old school we try to teach our kids morals and respect. We do not have much .But have a lot of love .for our family and GOD. There was problems with money 2000 years ago and there will be problems still with money till the end of this world..
