We received a number of complaints about our interview with Democrat Lee Whitnum last week on Face the State. As a candidate for the U.S. Senate, we invited Whitnum on the program as we have every candidate competing for a party nomination.
Whitnum’s comments about Israel, on Face the State and in other venues, have led some to accuse her of being anti-semitic. In fact, Whitnum is currently suing Governor Dannel Malloy, alleging he called her an anti-semite. We asked the Anti-Defamation League of Connecticut to watch and analyze our interview, and here’s what the organization had to say:
In our opinion, Ms. Whitnum invoked anti-Semitic canards, including allegations of Jewish control and accusations of dual loyalty. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, ADL is strictly non-partisan, and does not endorse or oppose candidates for office.

In addition to her lawsuit against Governor Malloy, Whitnum is also involved in other legal proceedings. Her case against the Norwich Bulletin is now in federal court to be heard today in New Haven. Whitnum is suing to be included in an upcoming Bulletin senate debate. Next week, Whitnum is due in court for a lawsuit she filed against the author of the My Left Nutmeg blog. She also filed lawsuits against Yahoo and the town of Greenwich.

Shame on her! Apparently she has too much free time if she is filing law suits against everyone. Me think she does protest too loud–typical hate mongerish behavior.

Sir, when you enter the public arena people come out of the wood work to harm you. I am not litigious but I have been forced to defend myself against falsehoods. Lee Whitnum

Seriously, you needed the ADL to analyse the interview? You didn’t come to the same conclusion on your own?

I think it’s important to hear people like Ms. Whitnum speak. When the words come straight from the speaker, there is no claiming something was “rumored” to be said, no “hearsay.” I suspect that her appearance on Face the State was representative of Ms. Whitnum as a candidate. It is essential that we have a good sense of who the candidates are before we elect them as our leaders. In some cases that proves to be quite difficult. In other cases…not so much.

Looks to me like Whitnum’s a full-blown nut job. And I thought the Republicans and Tea-baggers dominated that political category! Guess I was wrong…

Glad to see Whitnum is suing My Left Nutmeg which is the absolute worst blog in the entire State of CT. Maybe if a judge rules against MLN the vile and nasty people who post there will tone down their nasty rhetoric.

The ADL is a card carrying AIPAC organization. AIPAC is the most powerful force in DC and it is composed of 236 member organizations, the Anti-Defamation League being one of them. Oh course they are going to call me anti-Semitic – look who they are. I disagree. i am anti-AIPAC, and anti-Zionist but I have never been anti-Semitic. Questioning that someone may be biased due to ethnicity is a reasonable question. And, the existence of folks like the Neoconservatives who are Israel-firsters exists – why do you think we were tricked into unnecessary war in Iraq. There were never any weapons of mass destruction. Unfortunately in the United States you are either pro-pro-Israel or an anti-Semite, there is no middle ground. Lee Whitnum. PS – The taking down of Iraq for Israel was the first nail in the coffin of the United States of America. Now according the documentary SPYMASTERS …”we can’t kill our way out of this one.” We are doomed.
