Face the State Flashback: Ted Kennedy Campaigns in Connecticut

This Sunday on Face the State with Dennis House, our FTS Flashback brings us back to November 1979, when Senator Ted Kennedy came to Connecticut during his presidential campaign.      We found some old tape in the Channel 3 archives of Kennedy visiting Middletown and Hartford.

Ted Kennedy, Junior was a freshman at Wesleyan University and his sister Kara, a sophomore at Trinity College.   The video also shows the senator with his supporters at the old Sonesta Hotel on Constitution Plaza, and an assessment of the campaign from Kennedy friend and then Congressman Chris Dodd.

At the time, Dodd was going against Governor Ella Grasso, who was supporting President Jimmy Carter.    Grasso’s popularity couldn’t help Carter. Kennedy soundly defeated him in the 1980 Connecticut presidential primary.

Tune in this Sunday at 11AM for Face the State, only on Channel 3.
