Our Repainted Door is a Tribute

Our front door has been a shiny black since we moved into our house in 2007. It looked great, but we wanted a change, and Kara came up with a great idea to honor the memory of our dear friend Denise D’Ascenzo. “Let’s paint it coral.”

Denise’s favorite color was coral, and all shades of it. She would describe the color of clothes she wore by calling her outfit shrimp, salmon, persimmon, rose and the list would go on. She knew every shade. Denise called coral a “happy color” and wore it throughout her life.

Denise’s friends, family and coworkers wore coral ribbons in the weeks after her death.

To get the project going I went to Ring’s End in Wethersfield where the folks there have helped us out for years. We chose Coral Gables by Benjamin Moore. I sanded the door, primed it and put on three coats over the weekend. When Wayne and Kathryn, Denise’s husband and daughter saw it, they were deeply moved. I repainted a couple of flower boxes for good measure.

What do you think?
