#Positive Vibes: Feeling So Much Love Lately

2020 has been quite a year. It began with dealing with the tremendous grief over the loss of Denise D’Ascenzo in late 2019, her memorial service at the end of January, then the coronavirus pandemic in March. COVID still dominates our headlines every day, as it impacts our families, the economy, politics and our every day way of life.

There is so much uncertainty, and for me, I’m wondering what is next? I had a great run at WFSB that came to end on August 31st. I loved working there and am really proud of what I accomplished during 28 years. Channel 3 will always hold a special place in my heart. I met Kara there and it is a big part of my family.

I’m also super excited for what’s next, whatever that may be, but I will continue to serve the people of Connecticut. The past three weeks have been amazing in so many ways. I have received some wonderful messages and posts from thousands of viewers, current and former colleagues, competitors, friends and family. I have been deeply moved by them, and I am so grateful for the support and compassion. If you have loyal friends and in the case of a television news anchor, loyal viewers, you are blessed. I certainly am.

I am going to post some of these messages here on this website in the coming days and weeks but I wanted to begin with these two from my friends Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. Mika was one of my first friends I made at Channel 3 when we both started there in the summer of 1992. We’ve been friends through her moves to CBS and MSNBC and shared our stories of life’s ups and downs. I met her husband Joe several years ago when Mika brought him to Hartford and they appeared on Face the State. They came back for Mika’s launch of her “Know Your Value” tour where Gayle and Kara joined us for a happy reunion. They both love Connecticut and have given me some great advice.

  7. What Mika says is so true. It is a disservice to us all by not having you on air here in Connecticut for all of the reasons mentioned. We are patiently waiting to hear and see you once again in some way. News is not the same. It’s drab and uninteresting, and there is no point to tuning in until you return. Have you ever considered running for office?

  16. Dennis, you and Denise were my first newsroom faces I watched when I moved to Connecticut from Rhode Island in 2005, until 2019/2020🙁
You were both so professional and so down to earth all in one. I also love watching your beautiful wife Kara on her different segments. May God continue to bless you and your beautiful family during these trying times and changes.

  19. Dennis,
It is so ironic that you were let go because you are SO GREAT at your profession! You have mastered your profession and unfortunately, also penalized for it. WFSB is turning into the station to go to as an entry level employee, lower salaries commensurating with experience. I truly hope the next chapter of your professional life brings you much happiness and fulfillment. You are one of the great people in this world. Best of Luck!!
