Some people dream of owning a Corvette, Lamborghini, a Bugatti or a Bentley. I’m not one of those people. My dream car would be a station wagon, a woody wagon, with real wood.
Problem is real wood disappeared from cars in the 1950s as people realized it’s not very durable in crashes and there’s that flammability thing. Survivors of the woody era are rare, and often pricey. One like the one above can sell for upwards of $75,000, about 150 times its original cost.
The wagon here was spotted and photographed by Newport author Bettie Bearden Pardee. Here’s her story and more pictures of this great wagon http://privatenewport.com/living-with-style/people-places-spaces/a-trip-down-memory-lane-the-buick-woody/
