The movie Grown Ups was mindless fun, and I’ll admit, I’m looking forward to the sequel this summer. Hartford Whalers fans everywhere got a huge thrill when Adam Sandler wore a Whalers t-shirt in the first film, and there’s hope he will promote Connecticut’s beloved lost hockey franchise in the second movie.
There is a scene in the trailer in which Sandler is wearing a green shirt when a deer urinates on him while he is in bed with Salma Hayek . Remember, I did say mindless. But you can’t tell if it is indeed the familiar Brass Bonanza logo on the shirt. We’ll have to wait until school gets out and Grown Ups 2 hits theaters. There is a shot of native Granite Stater Sandler wearing a University of New Hampshire shirt. He grew up in Manchester, where I got my start in television.
Also, the J. Geils Band is hauled out of retirement to make an appearance in the sequel, at a pool party at a home in the fictional town of Stanton, Connecticut, where Grown Ups is set. When I was in junior high and high school I loved J. Geils. Wish I still had that t-shirt. They played at my high school once, and I saw them perform at the old Boston Garden and the now defunct Cape Cod Coliseum.
