Eyewitness News will carry Richard Blumenthal’s news conference live on Channel 3 at 2PM. Blumenthal will appear with a group of Veterans and will answer questions raised by the New York Times about his military record. The Times reported Blumenthal has said on more than one occasion that he served in Vietnam, when in fact he did not. At least one videotape has surfaced of the Attorney General talking about serving in Vietnam.
The Blumenthal campaign released a brief statement late last night that was critical of the Times, but the statement did not address the Vietnam issue.
That is something Blumenthal will have to do today, and you can watch it live on WFSB. Our apologies to fans of “As the World Turns,” which will be partially pre-empted.
Republican party chairman Chris Healy and former Democratic party chairman Ed Marcus will join us immediately following the news conference for analysis. A spokeswoman for the Democrats declined our invitation to have current party chairwoman Nancy DiNardo join us.
