The “Attack of the Giant Squid,” or perhaps “Calamari versus the Country Squire.” I need a title for my entry for an art auction this weekend. Any suggestions?
A few years back our dear friend Dee Gordon got us involved in a really fun fundraiser called Wet Paint. Amateur artists of all ages along with some really talented experienced artists donate their work and people buy it at a silent auction. Some pieces go up for auction in a live bidding war. All proceeds benefit the Newport Art Museum.
It’s a great event that many of the Connecticut participants and bidders would love to see replicated some day in Hartford at the Wadsworth Atheneum. Last year Wet Paint raised $125,000 for the Newport Art Museum, not a bad haul.
If you’d like to take part and bid on my squid, or on Kara’s creation that she is working on, visit the Ocean State this weekend. Here are the details: http://www.newportartmuseum.org/Programs-Events/Wet-Paint
By the way, I’m not a very good artist, but enjoy creating silly artwork that my kids get a kick out of. You can see my other paintings below.
