Election 2018?

Could you be looking at the 2018 gubernatorial matchup?   Future congressional candidates?   You never know.    This week on Face the State we are joined by two of the winners on election night, both regarded by some of their peers as “rising stars” in their parties.    Republican Jayme Stevenson was just elected First Selectman of Darien, and Democrat Dan Drew defeated incumbent Republican Mayor Sebastian Giuliano in Middletown.

The Democrats’  bench is pretty deep with mayors in the state’s largest cities:  Hartford, New Haven, New London, Bridgeport and Waterbury.   The 31 year  Drew is one of the youngest mayors in the state, and his victory brought special joy to Governor Malloy.

The Republican bench is a little thin these days.   Stevenson, a former Vice-President of Standard and Poor’s and mother of five,  has already caught the eye of some party leaders.    If re-elected in 2013, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Stevenson on someone’s list for lieutenant governor, or suggested as a candidate for congress in CT-4.

You can watch the entire interview with First Selectman-elect Stevenson and Mayor-elect Drew on Face the State this Sunday morning at 11, only on Channel 3.
