The noisy debate over gun control captured the headlines at the state capitol this week, but quietly down the street at the Secretary of the State’s office, campaign 2014 was getting underway.
That’s where state representative Penny Bacchiochi filed the papers to create an exploratory committee for lieutenant governor. The 6-term Republican from Somers is the first person in the race for governor and LG to take this step. During a taping of Face the State I asked Bacchiochi why she wants to run for lieutenant governor rather than governor. “In this day and age, governor and lieutenant governor are a strong partnership,” Bacchiochi told me, but stressed she won’t fill the traditional running mate role as campaign attack dog.
Bacchiochi briefly laid out some of the arguments she would use as a candidate, saying people “are fed up” with the state of affairs in Connecticut.
