Connecticut

Casinos, Clinton, and a Cash Crunch

springmgm

There was no interest in expanding casino gambling in Connecticut until Massachusetts decided to legalize it.  That’s why  expansion is now a somewhat urgent matter.

MGM is building a giant casino in Springfield, which will undoubtedly attract plenty of customers from our state, and could negatively impact the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos.  The state has agreed to entertain the idea of a new casino in Metro Hartford to keep gambling dollars in Connecticut.

MGM argues it is unfair that is not allowed to bid on the third casino, which is to be built by a Foxwoods Mohegan partnership.   We’ve heard from the trial leaders and this Sunday on Face the State we are joined by an executive from MGM , in from Las Vegas to talk about the company’s lawsuit against the state and their belief that the next casino should go in Fairfield County.

Where do you think the new casino should go?

Also on the program, the president of the Hartford city council T.J. Clarke, who gives us an inside look at the troubled finances of the city, and what the state could do to help.  Bankrupcty?  Layoffs?  Receivership?  New taxes?

Rounding out the guest list is the chairman of the Connecticut Democratic Party, Nick Balletto.  We talked about the battle between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders for the nomination, Donald Trump and Clinton’s chances here in our state’s primary coming up next month.  I also asked about the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s email situation.

I also asked Balletto who is responsible for the current budget crisis: “Governors Weicker, Rowland and Rell.”

Our flashback is some vintage film of Ronald Reagan in Connecticut back in 1967.  More on that here:   https://dennishouse.tv/2016/03/11/ronald-reagan-in-connecticut-1967/

Tune in Sunday morning at 11AM on WFSB.

  1. As if we really need another casino. Has anyone really won big at the Sun? I used to see all these “Jackpot flags” in slot machines with happy people, now all you see is desperation. I like how the Sun announces “Another Jackpot winner!” – yet I have never seen one around me lol . I now take my gambling dollars to Twin River – it may not be as big as the Sun – but at least I win there more often and my money lasts longer.

  2. I live in east Windsor so if Connecticut can’t make its mind I will be driving to Springfield when the time comes. The two casino’s are to far for lots of folks who live north of Hartford. So please someone make a decision soon. Everything in Connecticut is always so difficult.
