Governor Defends Budget: “Overall It’s Pretty Good”

malloysun12

It’s been a tough week to be Governor Dan Malloy.   A budget proposal that wasn’t wholly his was barely passed by the legislature after that body was warned by three Fortune 500 companies headquartered in our state to not raise taxes.  Opponents said the governor lied and broke a campaign promise, and all of this ended up on the national news branding Connecticut as a state that raised taxes again.

Despite all of that, the governor came in for a taping of Face the State that aired Sunday at 11AM on WFSB.  The governor conceded this was not the exact budget he wanted, but defended it.  “if you measure everything, overall this is a pretty good budget.”

The last time the governor was on Face the State he unveiled plans for a reduction in the sales tax, but under the budget passed by Democrats on Wednesday, that won’t be happening.  I asked him if he was disappointed:  “I would have (lowered the tax) done that if I was the governor and the legislature.”

The governor suggested people are not upset over a tax increase because they want better transportation. “People gripe about spending about 40 hours a year extra in traffic because we haven’t invested in transportation,” and he said the big corporations complaining about the budget feel the same way.

“Everyone of those companies wants something to be done to improve transportation…..if a company leaves now, it is a company that was already planning to leave.”

Hillary Clinton came to Connecticut on Friday and received a gift from a local doctor.  Read about that here: https://dennishouse.tv/2015/06/06/anti-aging-expert-gives-hillary-clinton-beauty-products/

  1. If Malloy signs that budget. Expect a mass exodus of Businesses, companies, people and professionals to move out of Connecticut and into states that cost less and are business friendly. This happened in California, Illinois and Detroit. It’s happening now in NY and CT as well.

  3. Malloy lied to us his first term, lied to us his second and says, “it is what it is” is the most irresponsible attitude. shrink government, shrink spending to cover your addition errors… and cut Malloy’s pay and stop shrinking the State’s business’ and population. To run everything out of this state and be so cavalier demonstrates he has no clue and needs to go. The worst Governor in my memory and totally ignorant about it

  4. Malloy doesn’t have a clue. Shown in his cavalier attitude about business’ and people leaving the State. Shrink government, shrink spending, shrink Malloy’s compensation to offset Malloy’s inability to add/subtract that lead to his 2nd lie to get elected/re-elected about raising taxes. There is nothing left to take from the residents except Malloy’s job

  7. The man is a delusional egomaniac. He is incapable of seeing the other side of any discussion. It must be nice to live in a world where nothing is “MY” fault. Connecticut will elect him again. We have a very high tolerance for liberal incompetence in the Northeast.
