The two candidates in the race for the Republican nomination for governor have both agreed to be civil and not attack each other. It appears no such detente is in effect in the campaign for lieutenant governor.
During a taping of Face the State set to air Sunday on WFSB, former Groton Mayor Heather Somers delivered some blistering criticism of one of her rivals, state representative Penny Bacchiochi.
Somers brought up the convention eve controversy between Bacchiochi and David Walker. Somers told me:
“I think if you are going to make a false accusation about one of your opponents I think it is egregious and I think it says something about your character, but the worst part of this is to go back on what you said. Now we’ve learned she says she never accused David.”
Somers went on to explain why she believes she is a better candidate than Bacchiochi, and said it appears her rival can’t handle the pressure of difficult situations.
We also talked about Walker, Governor Malloy, Tom Foley, and Mark Boughton, whom Somers dumped before the convention to run solo. She also revealed some new information about her pairing with the Danbury mayor.

Interesting that Heather Bond Somers attacks Bacchiochi about rumors. When it is a fact that Somers dumped Mayor Mark. Wasn’t it just a few months ago she was walking around spouting a Boughton/Somers ticket? She used Mark to raise money then left him? Lets not throw stones. Also Why are we attacking Republicans? Attacking each-other isn’t going to get Malloy out. Not very classy in my opinion. The former ceremonial Mayor attacks Bacchiochi and Walker, when Heather couldn’t even keep her word to Mark. Sounds to me like Somers is the one with an integrity problem.

I see we have the Boughton apologists chiming in. Hardly any of Bond’s money came from Boughton or his supporters, go look at the finance reports. Bond announced she was running for Lt. Governor and Boughton glommed on to her. Unfortunately at the time she didn’t know enough about his bad character to tell him to take a hike. Heather’s problem is she’s too nice. After a while she realized Boughton is a loser who can’t raise money and she distanced herself from him. Then he refused to take her phone calls for over a month. Alex and Ron, if he treated you two the way he treated Heather, you’d kick him to the curb too.

Don’t refer to me as a Boughton apologist; I am not.
My point is she should have stayed away from that charge. She left the door wide open for people to criticize her. If she did not do adequate research to know the character of her running-mate, she should learn a lesson from this experience.
As for the way Boughton might treat me, it is irrelevant; I am one person. It is likely he would have done harm to quite a number of people in Connecticut. He finally understood he had no chance of winning the gubernatorial race.
