The New Laws: The Good, Bad and the Questionable

flag

The 2013 legislative session is over, with a host of new laws being passed. The gun control law is already in effect, others will take place soon, and at least one doesn’t kick in until 2015. This Sunday on Face the State, we will have a wide-ranging discussion on everything from Newtown to driver’s licenses to expanded gambling.

We also some insightful analysis from Colin McEnroe, author, columnist and host on WNPR radio. He is coupled with Wayne Winsley, a former radio guy who ran for Congress. These two were very good together. McEnroe’s take on Keno is worth setting your DVR for, and he and Winsley also talked about the 2014 governor’s race, blacks in the GOP and much more.

Also part of our conversation on new laws is Dr. Arjune Rama of the Yale School of Medicine. He talked about grave concern he has about a section in the bill that could impede your privacy. Dr. Rama explained how a visit to a hospital could end with your name making it into a database. Here is a link to an op-ed piece Dr. Rama wrote http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2013/04/23/opinion/doc5176fcae43330706887191.txt?viewmode=default

  1. All of these except Keno are useless to our state. If they are so concerned about who will buy Keno tickets…then make people who have a job and are not collecting welfare be the only folks who can buy tickets. If they want undocumented individuals to obtain drivers licenses then they MUST do a backgroung check in which they will find that they are here illegally and should be arrested…sorry don’t qualify. Minimum wage….so the person sweeping the floor will be earning the same as a PCT in a hospital saving people’s lives? Does that make sense??

  2. No mention of the new 5 cent gas tax. I am wondering when these politicians are going to start to act like “responsible” people, instead of crazed free spending maniacs.

  3. I believe that it no longer matters to the lawmakers that they are hired by and paid by the people. No matter how much anyone protests, complains, goes to the authorities to have a say in how our government works, they do what they darn well please. The majority no longer has any recourse.
