In this Sunday’s Face the State flashback, we take you back to April 10, 1966, when an estimated 3-4,000 people gathered on Constitution Plaza in downtown Hartford to make history on a chilly Easter morning.

It was billed as the first outdoor Ecumenical Easter service in the nation, and it was broadcast on Channel 3, anchored by our former colleague, Dick Bertel.     The black and white film from our archives shows people who could be right out of central casting at Mad Men, the leaders of several churches, and giant crosses erected on the plaza.

We’ll also  discuss its significance with our panel of political analysts, Duby McDowell, Brian Flaherty and Kevin Rennie.
